Klopp on ‘outstanding’ Gakpo and why he’s ‘really what we need’

Cody Gakpo has been at Liverpool for a month and after four games for the club, Jürgen Klopp has been very impressed with what he has seen so far from the Dutch forward.

Speaking to the media ahead of the FA Cup clash with Brighton, the 55-year-old said: This central position is what we really need…

“But in the game he’s in a bit of a rush and momentarily he’s not in the right position, so you can’t even see it.” [yet]It’s his extreme strength. Everyone will see it, although he’s on a long-term deal here. So I am perfectly happy. ”

Boss has also described the 23-year-old as a ‘connector’, with the ex-PSV man looking to replace Bobby Firmino as a link between midfield and the front three.

While he has yet to find the back of the net for the Reds, it’s clear the manager is confident in what he’s seen so far and has high hopes for the number 18’s future.
