Man City star could leave club if Real Madrid pursue move

Manchester City loaner Joao Cancelo has hinted at a permanent departure from the club.

The Portuguese international is currently spending the second half of the 2022/2023 season on loan at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Speculation abounded about his exit from the Etihad on deadline day, but the player and Pep Guardiola insist Cancelo’s exit was not hard.

The 28-year-old has been City’s standout performer in recent seasons, playing a key role in their back-to-back Premier League campaign.

Cancelo hints at the future

However, Cancelo could be looking to seal a permanent move from England this summer when his loan term comes to an end. According to Movistar via Fabrizio Romano, the defender said:

“If a club like Real Madrid wants you, it’s a pleasure. It also means I’m doing the right thing.”

Bayern could also try to keep him over the summer if he impresses for the next five months.

In that case, Guardiola is likely to sign a full-back in the next transfer window.
