With Opening Week 18 of the NFL wrapped up, it’s time for the playoffs to begin.
The road to the postseason in Week 18 was wild. The Colts, who were widely expected to win one of two wild-card spots that had yet to be secured, were defeated by the Jaguars. That removed them from the AFC playoff image and opened the door for the Steelers to come in after their win over the Ravens. As long as the Chargers and Raiders do not tie on “Sunday Night Football,” the Steelers will go to the postseason in what is presumed to be Ben Roethlisberger’s final season.
On the NFC side of the bracket, it looked like the Saints would secure the only remaining NFC spot early on. However, the 49ers rebounded from a 17-0 second-half deficit against the Rams and earned a 27-24 victory in overtime. The 49ers will be the No. 6 seed due to their victory, while the Rams fell to No. 4 but still won the NFC West thanks to the Cardinals’ 38-30 loss to the Seahawks.
Wild card games begin on Saturday, January 15 with 12 teams competing over three days. Two teams, the Packers and the Titans, earned free passes in the first round and will not compete until the divisional rounds the following weekend.
