The 2021-22 NFL season draws to a close in inaugural Week 18 this weekend.
For the first time in NFL history, teams will compete in the seventeenth game of the regular season. Most of the action takes place on Sunday, January 9, with two flexible games on Saturday. This week there will be no “Thursday night football” or “Monday night football.”
With just five teams insured in the AFC and six teams insured in the NFC, this leaves an additional three playoff spots up for grabs. Sunday’s games will determine the rest of the playoff image. The teams still in contention in the AFC are the Ravens (vs. Steelers), the Colts (vs. Jaguars), the Steelers (vs. Ravens), the Raiders (vs. Chargers) and the Chargers (vs. Raiders). ). The Chargers vs. Raiders will be the last “Sunday Night Football” game of the season. This game has strong implications in the playoffs, as the team that wins will get a playoff spot. The Raiders will also have a chance to make the playoffs if the Colts lose and the Steelers lose or draw. The Chargers and Raiders will also earn playoff spots if the game ends in a tie.
