Darwin Nunez believes Cody Gakpo ‘will make the people of Liverpool very happy’ and has called on fans to give the Dutchman time while he adjusts to life in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old joined from PSV last month and scored his first goal for the Reds against Everton on Monday.
The number 27 looks forward to strengthening his on-field relationship with the Dutch national team in the coming weeks.
“They get used to me and I get used to them,” Nunez told Liverpoolfc.com (via The Boot Room).
“I think we will see good positive results over time.
“For example, Gakpo is a quality player and has many classes.

“He came here at a time when we weren’t at our best and we have to understand that he needs time to get used to it.
“I think he’s done well in the games he’s appeared in so far. Hopefully over time he will gain a great understanding and be able to bring joy to the Liverpool fans.”
Nunez joined Merseyside from Benfica in the summer, but his Liverpool career is still in its infancy.
With Diogo Jota and Bobby Firmino recently returning to fitness and Luis Diaz on the verge of returning, our options at the top end of the pitch are of the highest quality.
Strengthening the midfield this summer is the club’s top priority, and with reinforcements in the middle of the park there’s no reason why they can’t be competitive on all four fronts next season.
This campaign could still be successful, but we’re still in the Champions League and our challenge for the Top 4 is far from over.
